Last year I discovered
NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month and on my first try
I actually completed the challenge of writing a 50,000 word novel in a month. I am going to give it a try again this year, but of course with a new daughter on the way, I will have an additional challenge. Still, it was fun writing throughout the month of November last year, even though the ending product was just, well it was bad and the story is yet unfinished. The NaNoWriMo website opens for registration later tonight for this years month of writing challenge.
If you have ever wanted to write a novel, for whatever the reason, this is your chance. Besides it is just nice to be able to say you wrote a novel. I need to stop saying how bad my novel was and get the thing printed over at CafePress, just so I have it for my bookshelf. Let's get signed up for NaNoWriMo people, then we can all talk about our writing stumbling blocks as November rolls along.
I have decided that I am going to use October to finish last years novel. That should be a good warm-up for this years run. Before you ask, I have no idea what my novel will be about this year. None, zip, zilch, so I am taking any and all suggestions.
Comments:
Like you I did my NANO last year and reached the 50,000 words, but did not finish my story. Unlike you I will probally use October to read last years NANO and finish it this year. I figure a little over 50,000 words last year and another 50,000 words this year and I should have a very thick NANO that will be very bad and very unread! I also have another story line in my head, but its SCI-FI and to make that type of story really work I would probally have to spend all of October doing research!
Please keep us posted on your story line and your topic direction on your fourth coming NANO.

That is a nice idea adding this years work to last year. That would not work for me, plus I am pretty sure I want to do a non-sports related story. I had a hard time last season coming up with ideas to fill out my story. I ended up adding a CSI type twist to me satirical sports story.
I have thought about doing a Fantasy/Sci Fi story both last year and this year but that type of story really intimidates me. I guess because I want badly to do something decent and I realize the research that would be required to do something decent in the Sci Fi genre, that it intimidates me. But who knows, doing a story like that would offer endless possibilities. :)

Hmm.. Might go the Sci Fi route and unearth the Jack Burton character, borrowed from BTiLC that I blogged about a couple days ago. So the old Pork Chop Express might rumble onto the scene again in a month or so. That is my first real idea.

You're a brave man. I don't have the guts to tackle NaNoWriMo - at least not yet.
How about this for an idea?
Big Trouble in Lunar China
They're going to beat us getting back to the Moon anyway.

Talk about Sci Fi, well sorta, you are probably right they may beat us back to the moon. For sure they will beat us to the effort IMO.

No I never heard of that, but I will bite and give it a shot. Seems very convenient with the constant updating of your word count.
